hello Alain,
from the ABMC site for the 514th Fighter Squadron 406th Fighter group.

2Lt John I. Smith was killed this date.

Note: Pittala's a/c 44-19747 was a/c "R" and was ex Bloom's - Bloom's Tomb VII "B".
