4./Kampfgeschwader 51 loss

On 1 June 1940, II./Kampfgeschwader 51 suffered the loss of a He111 and a Ju88 during the late stages of the Battle of France. I have reason to believe the Beobachter of one of these aircraft was Bernhard Sartor as he was taken captive on that day.

Does anyone have additional information regarding the AC, crew or units (Allied) which took part in this claim(s)? In particular I'm intertested in Sartors AC.

Many thanks

Jeremy

Re: 4./Kampfgeschwader 51 loss

Herewith details of the aircraft you queried. This unit was Ju88 equipped so no He111 loss I'm afraid.

4./KG51 Junkers Ju88A (8004). Engaged over Lac de Paladru by Adj Baritel of GC III/9 during sortie to Marseille and pursued north-east eventually forced-landing near Ruffieux with port engine feathered 1.45 p.m. Fw R. Müller, Uffz P. Dickhut, Gefr B. Sartor, and Gefr H. Spiess captured unhurt. Aircraft 9K+DM a write-off.
