p38 crash

In the area of SW of Bruneck/ Sudtirol/ Italy (coord. 46 deg 45 N, 11 deg. 55 E), crashed in summer 1944 a p38. Pilot KIA, no name, no day, no month, no serial, no MACR. Only numbers on aluminum sheet. Do you have any idea when this happened? Any details known?
Could it have been another model but a p38?
Thanks for your help!

Re: p38 crash

You will probably get a far better chance of a response if you posted this in the 'Allied and Soviet Air Forces' section. This is the Luftwaffe & Axis area.

Re: p38 crash

Hi Rodo,

I have with my friend in Austria being looking at this problem P-38/F-5 for some time now and still have nothing certain yet. But we keep searching and asking .
These pictures also have been on the armyairforce site and there was little responce. also I placed them on the Indexpart numbers site (aero part identity board) with little result either.

Re: p38 crash

Hi John and Alex,
many thanks for your contributions. My idea was that somebody from Luftwaffe Germany would remember this incident. I´ll place it now on Allied Forces as well.

Does one have any experience how to research in Freiburg Luftwaffe Archive??
