Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Hi Steven,

Don't know if you are aware but prior to being Kdre. NJG 101 Herbert Sewing was Gr.Kdr. II./NJG 2 07Mar43-Dec43.

Also an Oblt Herbert Sewing was St.Kap. 1.(F)/122 May40-Jan41. I'm not sure if it is the same guy but the rank would be about right and it wasn't too uncommon for aufklärer pilots to remuster to the nachtjäger.

Best Regards

Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Hi Steven,

Wilhelm Liebholz (Bf) awarded DKiG 16Jul42 with 7./KG 1 (as a Fw)

Erich Taeger (Ff) awarded DKiG 09Apr42 with III./KG 1 (as a Lt) and RK 02Oct42 with 7./KG 1 (as an Oblt)

That's all the info I've got I'm afraid. I don't know what staffel Taeger served with in III./KG 1 when he received the DKiG (I presume 7./KG 1) or if Liebholz was part of his crew.

Maybe someone with access to the loss database can see if either or both show up as casualties.

Best Regards

Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Hi Guys

From where comes the info that Herbert Sewing was Kommodore of NJG 101? According to the Carlsen/Meyer book he was Kommodore of NJG 102! Again according to them, the following were Kommodore of NJG 101
Rudolf Stoltenhof 20.3.43 - 6.2.44
Franz Evers 7.2.44 - 15.3.45

Ludwig Fehling is however found in their book as Kommandeur of I./NJG 102

Something is wrong here, but I don't know what is...

Cheers
Stig

Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Hi Stig,

My source for Sewing being Kdre. NJG 101 is

http://www.ww2.dk/air/njagd/njg101.htm

It may well be wrong. Whilst the site is excellent there are some errors.

Dates also differ on Franz Evers as Kdre. NJG 102

Best Regards

Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Thanks Andy

It looks like Carlsen/Meyer must have made an error. Checking the Kommodore of NJG 101 and 102 they list the same individuals in both units at the same time and also have two persons as Kommodore at the same time for NJG 102 (didn't see that until now, since it was rather unexpected...)

This is what they say
NJG 101 NJG 102
Rudolf Stoltenhoff 20.3.43-6.2.44 Albert Blumensaat 15.12.43-Feb 44
Franz Evers 7.2.44-14.3.45 Franz Evers Feb.44-31.5.44
Karl Theodor Hülshoff 1.6.44-25.3.45
Herbert Sewing 7.2.44 - 27.2.45

I guess we can scrub Sewing as being with NJG 102 at all, and with Evers in NJG 102 at the time he was supposed to take over NJG 101, the latter does not seem likely. I think it is most likely Herbert Sewing was the Kommodore of NJG 101 as Holm states. However I notice that Sewing was Kommodore only up to 27.2.45. Is it possible Evers took over after him and was the last Kommodore of the unit?? Both Holm and Carlsen/Meyer agree that the Stab was disbanded on 15.3.45....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Geschwaderkommodore

Hi Guys I have a leistungsbuch to a nightfighter pilot which confirms that the information in
www.ww2.dk/air/njagd/njg101.htm
is correct as the signatures are of Sewing and Fehling.
