KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

Hi,

I am looking for pictures of KG 4`s He 111s in October 1944, to be more precise, I am looking for pictures that would show the winter camo pattern at around this time on them.

On the related note, they seem to have been equipped with He 111 H-16s and H-20s by this time. Can anyone tell me that

a, What engine model of the Jumo engine these two late variants mounted?
b, What was KG 4s operational task by this stage of the war?

Thank you all in advance.

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

b) Concerning operational tasks, afaik from the Motorbuchverlag-book:
In summer 1944, they flew "strategic" night bombruns deep into soviet territory to attack railways.
After the soviet success in Romania, they flew more or less 100% transport jobs, especially to Budapest and later Breslau.

This is clear due to the "H-20" subtype, which was a transport-configuration

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

Wellcome... Sorry, I have to correct myself: H-20 was multi-purpose. Its engine is the Jumo211N acc. to a Heinkel-brochure.

The transporter seires was the H-23.

I rereead the KG4-book: utumn '44 it was planned that they support the Wehrmacht in Hungary, but then they had to get german stuff out of Greece. In november, nothing happened, only in December, transport ops to Budapest started, later on a nightly basis. Then, in March 1945, Breslau became the target area (within Luftflotte 6). On 22.04.45, one Heinkel flies into Berlin with GFM Schörner so that he can get his Feldmarschalls-Stab personally from the Gröfaz... and the did get out again!

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

Thanks Yogy.

Does this Heinkel Brochure of the Jumo 211N specify the outputs and fuel types used in that engine?

TIA, and sorry for the delay to respond.

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

A series of pictures from ebay (discussed here: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...showtopic=4928) are *in my opinion* KG4 He 111s in winter camo, i.e just what you're after!

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

Kurfürst,

I have a nice picture about a KG 4 He 111 from October, 1944 which shows well the camo, just drop me a pm and I'll send it to you.

As for their tasks: they flew bombing missions as well, not just supply drops (I have few Flugbuch entries from this period)

There are few available unpublished manuscripts as well from unit members (different level of reminescences)

Csaba, that's interesting... the Motorbuchverlag-book does not mention such missions at all.

Do you know what targets they attacked and wether there were still daylight bombings to be flown?

Would be very nice if you list some examples of missions ...

Re: KG 4`s Heinkel 111s

Does anybody know any photos of II/KG 4 in April 1941 in Belgrade bombing?

Kind regards
