F/O Funk R.C.A.F

Looking for details on this officer.

F/O F.J or P.J Funk J8876 RCAF

Pilot of No.195(B) Squadron, RAF Witchford who crash landed his Avro Lancaster Mk.B.III (HK663 A4-?) on return from the daylight raid on Homburg November 2nd 1944.

His crew bailed out and were taken PoW after the Lancaster was hit by heavy flak while over the target area, crash landed on the Allied 8th Corps Front and taken to a Canadian Field Hospital. One crew member was killed and buried in Groesbeek Canadian Cemetery.

Any details on this officer and 8th Corps location on this date.

TIA

Steve

Re: F/O Funk R.C.A.F

Hi,

I found this photo in an antique shop in Ely late last year.

I was told it was a duplicate of one owned by the Witchford museum, and shows the Funk crew, but as yet I have been unable to verify this.

I believe HK663 was A4-D, but I cant now find the link to the site where I obtained that information, most places just list it as 'A4-?'

I also recall that HK663 was taken from C Flight 115 Squadron, but was still at Witchford at the time of the incident.

I tried emailing Julie Tester, but it just got bounced back.

I can give you the number of the antique place I bought the photo from, the chap there will be able to put you in touch with the guy who runs the Witchford museum, and Im sure he can provide further details.

Regards,

S.

Hi

Thanks for that. I have the ORB for both No.115(B) & No.195(B) Squadron, plus the station ORB. Neither give the individual letter "D".

Looks a great picture, while at the NA found some details on the crash.

Ditto email address for Tester.

Any info about picture welcome.

Kind regards

Steve
