3 RAAF Beauforts colliding clip - Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Discussion Forum

There is a famous newsreel clip of 3 RAAF Beauforts crashing into each other at sea level on a training run, in Australia 1942/43.

Any details on this crash and if there were any survivors?

Is the clip viewable on the internet?

Although it was a flight of 3 Beauforts, only two collided. I think their were no survivors of both crews.

I must have the clip on my computer somewhere and can send it. PM me your address.

Was the crash in Walvis Bay? I typed in "air crash" on the Pathe search engine http://www.itnarchive.com/britishpathe/
which gave hundreds of clips.

Any other suggestions to narrow the search?

BTW, "Luftwaffe's Black Monday" has some interesting Allied footage of Bodenplatte

Walvis Bay, isn't that South Africa?!

Walvis Bay is in now Namibia,then South West Africa.
There were no RAAF Beauforts stationed there.

The video I have got involves Beauforts A9-27 and A9-268, Jervis Bay, 14-4-43.
The three Beauforts come in in very close formation. When the leader pulls up, its tail gets caught by his starboard wingman wingtip. He loses his tail and crashes in the sea after an uncontrolled "chandelle". Destabilized, the wingman crashes too.

Aah! Once you told us it was Jervis Bay, a search found it immediately!

Is there any way a crash might be survivable once an empennage is removed at that altitude? Was death in this case by impact or drowning?
