Re: Info on Oberleutnant Alfred Veith (KG55)

The bulk of this comes from Larry deZeng’s massive collection of Lw. Officer career notes:

Alfred Veith:

Born 25 April 1918 in Pomster/Adenau.

On 24 October 1944 as an Oblt. and observer in 5./KG 55, he was awarded the Ritterkreuz for destroying 24 planes on the ground, 16 tanks, 27 locomotives and 20 trains.

1 January 1945 he was promoted to Hptm.
He was credited with nearly 400 combat missions.

On 30 September 1976 , he retired from the Bundeswehr as an Oberst.

He has no known death date so he may still be alive.

Re: Info on Oberleutnant Alfred Veith (KG55)

Larry deZeng's notes are currently not available except through me or Larry. We will not give out info in bulk, only requests for individuals if it appears we can help someone out. We hope to publish these in the future when they are adequately developed. Currently Larry's main file holds info on 23,805 Luftwaffe officers (995 pages of notes!). These cover those officers who either held a command, held a staff position or were at least of Hptm. rank or higher. Larry has about 10 more rolls of microfilm of position assignment orders (where most of his info comes from). I troll the published matter and websites for nuggets. We find useful info all the time. It just never ends. Larry estimates that it will take at least 5 more years to plow through the microfilms. As far as published matter is concerned, I am just about through everything.

Sorry, specific requests only.....

Doug
