Re: Leading Edge Angle of the Bf 109G Wing
According to the Flügelaufbauzeichnung (wing layout drawing), the chord length of the innermost rib 1 was 2143 mm, that of the outermost rib 13 was 1175 mm. The distance between both in the plane of the wing was 3735 mm. The sweepback of the leading edge over that distance was 259 mm, so the forward sweep of the trailing edge amounted to 709 mm. This yields a sweepback of just 4° for the leading edge and a forward sweep of just 10.75°. These angles hold for all 109s with round wing tips (except a very few Hs) and up to fractions of a mm also for the early 109s with angular wings, on which the straight part of the wing extented further outward. Due to detail construction of the ailerons and flaps, there were very slight deviations from the Aufbauzeichnung on the trailing edge, but these are negligable. Practically, on model drawings the correct small angle between the leading edges has to be 8°, that between the trailing edges 21.5°.
