Re: 9/KG53 insgnia?

Chris, just for the record, on your first attachment you state that this is an emblem for KG.53, my records show that this emblem is for 3./KG 27.

Re: 9/KG53 insgnia?

Hi, Trevor...

Sorry, but I'm a little confused... I don't see anything in this thread relating to KG27. Am I missing something obvious...? Apologies in advance if I am...

Re: 9/KG53 insgnia?

Glad to be of assistance to you.

Any particular reason for being interested in KG53? And on a slightly scary note, if you don't mind me asking, why do you use the name 'Chainsaw'...?

Yours in trepidation... ! (LOL)

Re: 9/KG53 insgnia?

Oh my name is from old times..

Okey I fly the Il2 game and I love bombing...
when I first started flying online for like... 4-5 years? I found a swedish squadron named F10 (flygflottilj 10) wich just happens to be the base wich I lived close to (now closed down) so I joined them.
so now I needed a callsign, something cool and at the moment there was a techno song called Chainsaw so I grabbed that name,
thats where F10_Chainsaw comes from

my intresst in KG53 is because me and a friend is starting a level bombing squadron for IL2/ storm of war (whenever that comes out) and we was browsing for units who used HE-111 only and was in both west front and east front service, wich KG53 matched.

and I hate units that just grabbs a name and dont know a shit about its real units history so ive started digging into it, creating realistic airplane skins and trying to keep it as historical as possible.

we have named ourself 5./KG53 to grab just a small unit of KG53 instead of the whole geschwader.

So ive started my research now, trying to find out as much as possible i can, but it seems we picked wrong unit for that :O

Hi Trevor

I've checked again to be on the safe side and my sources, Ketley and Rolf and Karl Ries say KG 53.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,
I'm aware of both your sources but I still consider them suspect.
My information is taken from Vol 3 of the Boelcke Archiv by Walter Waiss, This is a four volume very detailed histoty of KG 27 (in German) and contains many photographs of the unit. There are three photos of this emblem clearly captioned 3./KG 27.
best wishesTrevor.

I know what you mean about Ketley and Rolf and Karl Ries. Much of Ketley and Rolfe follow Ries in their findings. However the confusion lies in that I think both units 9./KG 53 and 3./KG27 used similar emblems. I have the books you refer to above (not Volume 1 sadly) and but can only see one picture in Band III with the emblem you mean but it is a very clear picture. But the 3./KG 27 differs in detail to that of 9./KG 53 not only detail but in the colours employed and is a little bit more flamboyant (if you pardon the pun), see my illustration below

Re: 9/KG53 insgnia?

Hi,

I have a question that has to do with the emblems of KG53.

I only know the "Gruppe" emblems and didn't know that each Staffel had his own emblem. Do the Staffels of Gruppe II all have the Gruppe emblem with a different bird inside the emblem? Or are all the emblem totally different from the gruppe emblems, like the pic of Staffel 9.?

Can someone maybe place pics or drawings of the different staffel emblems?

Thanks in advance and regards,

Thomas
