Hello James
The Schiffer Military History book states that the under-wing turrets were removed during its time in the Mediterranean, but does not give a reason why. First picture is of her in 1945 after capture with a very tatty paint finish and the second after the British handed her over to the septics  (only joking).First profile from the Flugzeug Profile on the BV222 and lastly a profile by Kjetil Aakra. I have a picture of her in the Mediterrainean with the white fuselage theatre band. Also the V8 was marked with an 'S8' in white on the tail and the V4 likewise with a 'V4' so the 'S2' on the V2 must follow as being a generically applied marking (unless anybody has any other ideas?).
