Need photo of Gen. Stratemeyer's personal P-38L
This a/c was not a bombsight-equipped droop snoot P-38, but was very similar. A special mod by Hindustan Aircraft of a P-38L, it had a second seat ahead of and below the pilot, behind a transparent nose.
I just acquired the Dragon kit of the droop snoot, which includes the markings for Stratemeyer's personal a/c. I need to see if his plane had side windows as well as the clear nose cap. The kit's one major gaffe is that it omits those windows. That's a problem if you want to build the "genuine" droop snoot; but the Stratemeyer plane was a one-off and may have been different. I am nearly certain that I've seen a photo (in a book, years back) of Stratemeyer's plane, with the CBI badge on its nose. So, I hope the photo is out there somehere and that someone can post a scan or a link here. TIA |
