Jan Poniatowski
Guys
Perhaps one for our Polish members? Back in the old days when I got historically interested in aviation, the name Jan Poniatowski occured now and then when dealing with Polish Aces. Later his name completely disappeared. Was he a totally ficticious person or did he really exist? Wrongly spelled name perhaps or mistaken identity?? If he was made up, who did this and why??? Re: Jan Poniatowski
I recall to read about Polish ace Poniatowski, who flew in Greece, but this was only a mention of a rumour in a newspaper, so I cannot tell the original source. Without doubt there is no man named Poniatowski on Polish aces' list, and only fighter pilot of such name that I am awared of is ppor. Jerzy Poniatowski of GC II/10 killed on 7.06.1940.

Re: Jan Poniatowski
Thanks Franek
Yep, that's the Guy. Greece! I didn't remember that since I have nothing left in my files. His name just popped into my brain when reading some messages in the Allied section yesterday ![]() OK let's put him to rest then as the incarnation of the Polish fighter... ![]() Don't think he is needed today, those real individuals did pretty well by themselves anyway... Re: Jan Poniatowski
Still, it is interesting the origin of the story. Someone must have invented it.
