Finnish ace Juutilainen

Hi guys

What was the date that Finnish ace Juutilainen was shot down by Finnish AA fire? Has someone an account of the incident, please?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Finnish ace Juutilainen

You might want to check Juutilainen's book "Double Fighter Knight".

Yes, it's a translated from Finnish. The original was first published in Finland under the name "Punalentäjien kiusana" (Menace of the Red Pilots) in 1956.

Re: Finnish ace Juutilainen

Hi Martti

Thanks for the details. However, I have just looked on Amazon and two second-hand copies are available - at £54 and £145! A bit too pricey for me, specially when all I require is the date and brief details of circumstances.

Can you, or anyone else who has a copy of the book, provide this information, please. After all, it is Christmas!

Best
Brian

Hi!

Finnish publisher Apali has the book at price 27,50 EUR according their homepage:
http://www.apali.fi/kauppa/product_details.php?p=14
This is a recent English edition. The main page for Apali is at: http://www.apali.fi

Scroll down and there is English text as well. AFAIK they may take credit cards and if everything else fails (= webshop not working - or does no exist any more - in english) my guess is that contacting this e-mail address will sort things out:
myynti@apali.fi
(myynti = sales in Finnish)

Merry Christmas to you and all other forum readers as well,
Kari

Re: Finnish ace Juutilainen

Hi guys

Thanks for all the information on where I can purchase the book, but I have just been advised that the incident occurred on 18 December 1939, following which he force-landed without injury although the aircraft was badly damaged.

Thanks for your efforts

Brian

Hello Brian, are You sure? 18 Dec 39 is the date when another Finnish top ace, Eino Luukkanen was forced down by a friendly fire incident. See http://www.sci.fi/~fta/finace03.htm

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to You, Brian

Juha

Hi Juha

You appear to be correct - in fact, you are correct!

Perhaps you can advise me of the date and circumstances of Juutilainen's incident, assuming you have a copy of the book, please?

Cheers - and Happy Christmas to you

Brian

Re: Finnish ace Juutilainen

Brian,

I have a copy of Double Fighter Night.

Later on the same mission in which Luukkanen's D. XXI was forced down, Juutilainen's D. XXI was also hit by Finnish AAA taking one hit through a wing and two in the fuselage near the cockpit. Juutilainen escaped otherwise unscathed and returned to base. Do you believe that there was another incident? If so it was apparently not during the Winter War.

Regards,

Tom
