I hope any French readers will excuse my attempt here but it occurred to me that the German writer may have misspelled the location. So I looked up Violles on google maps and got this:

You'll note the full name is luppe-violles.

Looks like 'Nivelles' to me.

Hi Peter,

I must admit that I thought that at first but when comparing the 'o' in 'notlandung' with that in the place name they were too similar, also the handwriters style would indicate a lower down and more prominent start point for the initial upright of the 'N' and that is why I finally went for Vioelles!

There again it could also be a case of the owner and inscriber of the photo getting it wrong!

It was the second image I was referring to as it is clearer, and after studying a couple of feldpost items that I have I would still say Vioelles, but I would say that I'm still open to it being something else!
