Canadian Hurricanes and camouflage
Hi
Canadian Hurricanes again! In mid 1941 the camouflage schemes in the UK changed from the brown/green to the new grey/green. Reading through, I have heard lend lease supplied Mustang I's were still being supplied with brown/green in early 1942. Does anyone know whether this as the same for the Canadian CCF Hurricanes supplied to the UK. I assume they changed over eventually unless they retained the brown/green in Canada? Anyone got any information? regards Mark |

Re: Canadian Hurricanes and camouflage
The UK Day Fighter scheme was initially limited to UK-based aircraft and overseas fighters remained in Temperate Land or the appropriate Desert scheme. There would be no requirement to change the colours for any aircraft intended for RCAF use, and possibly not for any other British use.

I don't know exactly when they switched to OD 41/NG 43. |

Re: Canadian Hurricanes and camouflage
I don't believe that they ever did switch to delivering in OD uppers with NG lowers, but kept delivering in UK-equivalent colours until bare metal became acceptable. However, if you mean a change to green and grey on the uppersurfaces, I prefer to leave this particular can of worms to others.

Re: Canadian Hurricanes and camouflage
The Hurricanes that stayed in Canada remained in brown/green colours past the end of the war. Most of the Hurricanes exported from Canada later in the war came from RCAF Stored Reserve stock, and most probably left Canada in their original factory paint. That not to say that they were not repainted after arriving at their destination, however.
