Stuka pilot Heinz Mitgeod 1940-41?
Hello,
I'm trying to summarize the career of Heniz Migeod, a Stuka pilot during the Battle of Britain and later in North Africa. Does anyone know his rank (an officer I think) and the units to which he was assigned? I've checked the RKT books and he isn't listed there. Not from 40-41 but nonetheless (appears the name was spelled wrong in the loss):
Ju 87D-3/Trop, 2674, Migeod, Oblt. Heinz (F)/Mayer, gefr. Josef (Bf), , 3., St.G. 3, , S7+KL, , , 11-Nov-42, Both MIA, shot down by P-40s., , Afrika, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #12)-Vol.23, , SW of Sollum, 100%, F |

Re: Stuka pilot Heinz Mitgeod 1940-41?
Jim,
Thanks! I went back to check and you are right, we're talking about Oblt. Heinz Migeod here. My mistake on the spelling. He apparently flew with I./St.G. 76 in 1940, based on info from Marius in a post about the "S1" codes, which seems to match other photo info that I have. Anything more from anyone on Migeod and his career would be appreciated. He obviously survived the war, as he appeared in a symposium in South Africa a few years ago, and his uniform tunic is on display in a South African military museum. Regards, |

Hautmann Heinz-Georg Migeod was shot down by a Kitty hawk and not a P 40, which was flown by South Afrcan pilot Captain Hauptfleisch. Gefreiter Mayer and Oberleutnant Migeod both survived the crash land when shot down on 11 November 1942 at CAPUZZO, LIBYA about 500 km from EL ALAMEIN

Quote:
Correction - Mayer was a Feldwebel and not a Gefreiter according to Dr Heinz-Georg Migeod ( Hauptmann a.D) |

A search of our files yields:
MIGEOD, Heinz-Georg. 09.02.42 Oblt., awarded the Ehrenpokal. 21.08.42 awarded DKG, 1./St.G. 3. 01.10.43 promo to Hptm. That’s all we have on this guy. LdZ DGS |

Anton
Just out of curiosity, why are you so certain that Hauptfleisch shot down Migeod? After all No 2 Sq made claimed eight shot down and four probables and 57th FG soon after claimed another three when survivors tried to land at Gambut. Shores lists only four losses by I./St.G.3.... Anyone having a correct German loss list? And again Anton, why is Hauptfleisch confirmed as the victor during this mission?? Cheers Stig |

Re: Stuka pilot Heinz Mitgeod 1940-41?
Hi Stig
I know because the two gentleman have a dinner date once a year in November ( the month in which he was shot down ) -and I have witnessed the discussion on how Capt Hauptfleisch with his KITTYHAWK shot down the Stuka of Oberleutnant Heinz-Georg Migeod !! This was the second time he was shot down .The first time was 11 May 1940 -one day after the invasion -and his rear-gunner was killed. Greet from CAPE TOWN Anton Hart |
