Re: Luftwaffe crash site Newcastleton scotland
Sometimes the local history section of the main Library for the area may hold police, or civil defence records. Police reports where they survive can provide a lot of info. on crashes in an area,
The County Records office, rather than the local libraries, should hold the Police reports. Local History sections of the library may hold other reports etc. Best Wishes. Robert. |

Re: Luftwaffe crash site Newcastleton scotland
There is a short description of the action in John Foreman’s Air War 1941 Part 2. According to Foreman one (Z3079) of the two chasing Hurricanes crash-landed due to an oil leak at Longtown and the other (Z3031) was force-landed due to combat damage after its pilot F/L Du Vivier had shot down the Ju. Both pilots were unharmed. And then a question, how badly were Hurricanes damaged?

Re: Luftwaffe crash site Newcastleton scotland
I know this is an old post but I would be interested in any info on the loss of this Ju88.
I'm currently investigation the crash sites around Newcastleton and have recently located a Meteor and Hurricane and my next target is the Ju88. Many thanks, Jim Corbett |
