JG 2 and JG 4 in English, now!!!

Hello,

It is with great pleasure and a sense of relief that we can announce that our latest titles, the first English-language volumes of our chronicles of JG 2 "In the Skies of France" and JG 4 "Storming the Bombers", are now ready to be delivered.
If you have already reserved your copies you will be receiving an email from myself tomorrow with details on how to complete your purchase. In the meantime we do hope that these books will be most welcomed by Luftwaffe enthusiasts.

Best regards

Erik

Re: JG 2 and JG 4 in English, now!!!

Hi Paul,

thank you very much for your interest in my latest publications - I take this is as great encouragement as I pursue my research and plan future releases.
The books reflect some twenty years of research, including countless trips the length and breadth of Germany to meet virtually every surviving veteran of the two units - mechanics, pilots & the families of men KIA.
Thanks to your support, we hope our books will meet with the success that we believe all this hard work deserves. Should this be the case then we will not delay in bringing out subsequent volumes - translations are already underway.

Although several bookshops are interested too, I appreciate that you order directly to me.

Best regards

Erik

Picked JG4 vol. 1. Enjoyed it immensely. Eric, glad you got them into English.

Eric
Can you comment as to how well the English language book sales have been. Will you consider publishing Volume 2 of both JG2 and JG4 as a result?

Hi Del,

..don't know if Erik is around to answer this, but as it is a subject that cropped up in conversation recently let's just say that everything points to volume 2 of both histories appearing as planned...

& while I'm here, thanks very much kb for your kind comments on the JG 4 translated edition ! Appreciated by all involved I'm sure

Re: JG 2 and JG 4 in English, now!!!

I read the books a few weeks ago. Very well written and translated and on the whole very well edited as well, found very few typos! The neutrality of mr. Mombeeck´s writing is very commendable, especially in comparison with a certain Jochen´s PC moralizing. In summary, mr. Mombeeck has allowed the pilots to speak for themselves!

Re: JG 2 and JG 4 in English, now!!!

..somebody described me recently as Erik's 'English' voice so given that he's not around at the moment perhaps I should say thank you for supporting his project..and thank you for your comments on the quality of the prose.

..but as usual JJ you make things a little awkward for any respondent! Before someone else weighs in let me say that I managed to find a handful of typos in the JG 2 book - the perfectionist in me winces every time! There is of course a very large chunk of text in the book's 300+ A-4 pages. Only a couple slipped through in the JG4 book..(compared to about 5/volume in the JG 300 history - but those books took about a year to proof & correct and there were three of us doing it!)

..as to your other comments - I don't share your opinion there my friend as you well know - nor I doubt do many others here. JP set the standard when it comes to unit histories in our field, (not to mention the superb translation of the English-language editions), and his current JfV is 'magisterial' to quote RA. Shame more of his work hasn't appeared in English. However I take your point about letting the 'pilots speak' - one of the reason's why I enjoy Erik's books as much as I do.
