Re: 9th Air Force Fighter and Fighter-Bomber Sorties
Horst
Many thanks for the response. I would like to get statistics of missions despatched and losses suffered in response to 9th Air Force fighter field-orders. The idea is to combine the figures with RAF monthly statistics as the basis of an analysis on Allied air operations over western Europe. If it is not possible to split them then I have a Plan 'B' There is on-line information which shows fighter sorties by aircraft type (P-38, P-47, P-51) but, as you say, a fighter mission could end up straffing an enemy airfield while a fighter bomber mission could end up in a battle with enemy fighters. Statistics are always a useful tool, providing you remember 19th Century British politician George Canning's observation:"Statistics can tell you everything...except the truth." Warm regards Ted |
