I don't think that this unit existed under that name until February 1942.

Re: JGr. 102 LOSSES IN SEPTEMBER 1939

Greetings: JGr. 102 was indeed on bf109D's in 1939 and early 1940, converting to Bf110's during Feb./March 1940. Losses sustained by this unit in the Polish Campaign can be found at www.valka.cz . Hans Katzmann was one of JGr. 102's successful pilots in the Polish Campaign, with 3 claims. I had been unable to track down his fate until your post, so thank you for this information. Do you have names for any of the other crew lost on this date, or the crash at Straubling on 27.2.40? There are a few other pilots (ie.Uffz. Georg Schuch, Fw. Wolfgang Brachs) that I am trying to track down, so far without success. Cheers. Dean Wick.

Re: JGr. 102 LOSSES IN SEPTEMBER 1939

Hi Dean,
Uffz. Hans Katzmann and his WOp Uffz. Ernst Rath killed in a midair collision near Darmstadt in a mock dogfight, pilot of the other 110 bailed unhurt, the WOp.
Uffz. Heinz Rast killed in the crash. For the crash near Straubing (engine fire) both crewmembers mentioned as wounded - but no names given.

Regards

Khorat: Thank you for the additional crew information on the Katzmann crash. May I inquire as to your source? Also, Is there any mention of an Uffz. Georg Schuch of JGr.102/ I/ZG2 anywhere in your loss information? Any further help greatly appreciated. Cheers. Dean.
