Flettner Fl282 helicopters

Hi guys

Not sure if this subject has been discussed previously, but while perusing an old copy of Aeroplane Monthy (November 1975), I came across an article on the use of helicopters by the Germans during WW2.

The piece that particularly interested me was mention of Flettner 282s being operationally used in the Med, Aegean and Baltic in 1943 (and later?). Were any of these lost during operational flights? And were any ever observed by Allied aircraft? Did they belong to just one unit, if so, which? Which ships carried them?

Over to the experts.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Flettner Fl282 helicopters

My book 'Helicopters Of The Third Reich' published in 2002 by Classic expands greatly on the information contained in Tony Kay's articles, so naturally enough I am going to point you in its direction.

Thanks for that Steve

I'm ashamed to say that I was not aware of your book - looks a bit pricey, though, even second-hand, but I will obtain a copy to enlighten myself!

Cheers
Brian
