Re: Photos 8-20
Hello All,
These JG 109 serie: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=170374196801 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=170374198131 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=170374160943 very interesting indeed (but far to be clear). In fact this seller did put five more pictures. .. And with the complete serie in hand the question is: Do you see 109 Ts as I do??? Regards, Franck. |

Re: Photos 8-20
Welcome back Ed !
I don't know how you find those photos. They are wonderful. The 'photo album' in this selection is especially interesting as it seems to contain a puzzle (to me anyway). Photo album http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=130326113434 There are a number of photos here showing a Hampden after it was shot down. Be aware that one photo shows the body of an unfortunate crew member. Several of these views clearly show the unit markings; 'QR-M' though only one has the serial number, 'P4340', visible. Now 'QR' was the wartime squadron code for 61 Squadron, but every source I have consulted reveals this Hampden was lost with 83 Squadron ! The latter unit had the wartime code 'OL'. Looking at 'RAF Aircraft P1000-R9999' shows it had no service with 61 Squadron, only 83 Squadron. However P4340 falls in the middle of a sequence of 25 Hampdens, of which 17 - if we include P4340 - served initially with 61 Squadron but none with 83 Squadron (if we exclude P4340) ! Could it have been loaned to 83 Squadron for a short time ? Does anyone have the answer to this little puzzle ? Regards, Martin Gleeson. |

Re: Photos 8-20
In the Air Britain "Royal Air Force Aircraft P1000 to P9999", P4340 is mentioned "missing on 13.8.1940 with the 61 Squadron". Maybe the airmen were from the 83 Squadron...

Bf110D, U8+C? (C in white), seems to be mid 1940.

Re: Photos 8-20
Hallo Montana,
Now that is interesting ! You have the first edition of that RAF Aircraft Register, whereas the second edition has 83 Squadron as it's sole user. It looks more and more likely that P4340 was on loan to 83 Sqn. from 61 Sqn. Any other comments welcome. Regards, Martin. |

Re: Photos 8-20
Hi Martin,
I guess you noted on the CWGC site that the two airmen killed (Sgt Stanley D. Hill and Sgt Richard Abel) were member of the 83 Squadron. If somebody can take a look at the ORB of these Squadrons, it will be interesting... |

Re: Photos 8-20
Hi Guys,
And what if the serial was P4346? This serial was on duty with 61 Squadron and lost 22 June 1940. However, there was only one survivor then and judging the condition of the wreckage I should think that more crew members may survive that kind of crash landing. Just my thoughts...
