E9859 certainly corresponds to Emmerich am Rhein, though what records would have been kept on the ground I don't know. Perhaps there are some German graves records.

Yes indeed!
Fw Rudolf Hofmann 09-11-1918 Wölfersheim
is buried in the Cemetery at Rees, East of Emmerich.
Grave 97
Verlustmeldung gives werknummer 500064 !
I think Hofmann crashed East of Emmerich his first burial location may have been in:
Brünen/Elten/Hurl/Huthum/Isselburg/Vehlingen or Rees!
236 casualties were brought from these places to Rees Cemetery(contains 871 graves)

Yes,
Very strange, I will call the man who is responsible for our website, and I will ask him what's wrong.
I know that they are working on a complete new website.
I will let you know!

Re: 41 Sqn vs Me262s, Rheine Aerodrome, 14 Feb. 1945

Gents,

found this information from higher German staff:

MA Freiburg RL 2 II/390 ff
Reports of Luftwaffenführungsstab Ic

Situation-Report 14. Februar 1945 evening
for Kampfraum West

Kleve-Gennep area:

13 Me 262 (KG 51) attack on enemy concentrations
0745-0906 hrs
6 a/c landed elsewhere (“Aussenlandung”), 1 brake-off due to technical faults
2 a/c with pilots MIA

Kleve area:
16 Ar 234 (KG 76) and 5 Me 262 (KG 51) attacking 0755-0916 hrs
16 a/c over target, 5 a/c (KG 51) over secondary target

Over own airfield:
88 a/c of II Jagdkorps airfield-defence for KG 76 and KG 51
0745-0950 hrs in 4 (four) missions
2 Spitfire shot down, 1 own a/c 100% loss, 1 a/c MIA, 3 a/c damaged
1 pilot KIA, 1 pilot MIA and 1 pilot MIA

There are other missions reported that day, which are not connected to the early morning strike on Rheine, for example an afternoon raid around 16:00 hrs of KG 51 without losses.

Situation-reports were usually filed twice a day, one in the evining for action during the previous daytime and one early morning for night-activity. It's up to everyone, to judge for himself, how complete these reports were.

Freiburg has at last two different sets of reports, one for the "Reich" and one for "Kampfraum West" (from Norway to Italy). I have not found anything alike on the Ostfront.

HTH

I know this is not directly related to your query, but F/Lt. L.C. Shaver and F/O A.H. Fraser of No.439 Squadron RCAF nailed a couple of 262's from 5/KG 51 around the same time and same location. Time of attack is stated as being 0815. Were the two groups of 262s attacking the same target?

My son found this web site concerning Rudolf Hofmann while looking for info on genealogy. Rudolf Hofmann was my grandfather. My father has been looking for info about him, the squadron, and associates, for many years. With that said, if you or anybody else have any info on him, that would be most appreciated. If there is any info that you might need, send me a message and I will see what I can get from my father.

Wow! Thank you.
