Do217 over Dieppe 19/08/1942

I know a number of Do 217s of KG2 (and other units?) were claimed on this date. Were any attributed to any particular unit? 118 Sqn made two claims at 1525, I am looking to tie these up with German losses.

There were so many claims and so many losses, to tie up exactly is very hard. Note you are interested in 118 Sqn-I have their wartime notes on missions, losses, claims etc

Hi Chis,
I am researching FL JB Shepherd of 118 who claimed a victory on that date. He served 1942-43 but I am still looking when he joined and when he left!

Hi Guys

I have the combat report for F/L FAO Gaze of No.616 Sqn, he claimed a Do.217 probably destroyed 8 mi. from Dieppe on this date at 11:45am, verified by his No.2 P/O Blanchard. Hope this helps.

Hi Keith

According to "Aces High" he was posted to 118 squadron as a flight commander early in 1942., and left the squadron in October 1943. No specific dates given though. He later commanded 41 squadron and died in a flying accident on 22 January 1946.

See also the website of Steve Brew http://brew.clients.ch/RAF41Sqdn.htm - then look at the nominal roll.

what is your particular interest in John Bean Shepherd.

cheers

Allan
