Re: ANR vs 15th USAAF, 6 Apr 1944

No problem, Don, exchanging dates may certainly happen...

On that day we had 33 C.205s scrambled from Campoformido on early afternoon headed to Karlovac area (Croatia). There a combat took place presumably mainly against the escorting P-47s of the 325th FG. One P-47 was claimed by Ten. Bruno Cartosio at 15,45 hrs. in [Pl.Qu. QL 3-6/QM 1] area (confirmed by the Germans). Three C.205s were lost with Serg. Luigi Gorrini baling out while S.Ten. Remo Lugari and M.llo Luigi Morosi resulted as KIA. (Lugari is reported by the unit's diary as fallen at Fiume while Morosi at Bleiburg... though distances are noticeable, I can only take these data as they are reported).

Hope this helps.

Thanks again, Nick & Ferdinando. This is exactly what i need. I have only one undocumented combat left between the Axis defenders and the American heavies prior to D-Day (posted separately). It doesn't involve the ANR -- but feel free to dive in!

Horrido!

Don

Re: ANR vs 15th USAAF, 6 Apr 1944

You're welcome, Don!

I have however a small amendment concerning the wounding of M.llo Vittorio Pirchio on 2 April. According to the unit's diary, he was instead wounded in the combat of 6 April, together with Serg. Magg. Aroldo Burei.

The diary does not detail which wounding was connected to an aircraft loss, so either one between Burei and Pirchio may have been wounded in action and baled out (thus being him instead of Serg. Gorrini), whereas the other should have managed to come back to base. This however is not verificable with the data available but was nonetheless worth to be mentioned.

HTH.

Hello Ferdinando --

This is very much worth mentioning, as helps me with not one, but two of my "mystery dates".
