More Pictures to Share

Here are a few new photos that I have pbtained. One I believe is of a KG 27 aircraft and a FW 189 from Aufklarungsgruppe 31. If anyone needs a scanned copy let me know.

Re: More Pictures to Share

The writing goes with the photo of the FW-189.

Hey,
'I'm German and try to translate the writing:

Der Flugplatz. In einer der Maschinen fand Alfred den Tod.

The Airfield. In on of these Airplane Alfred (Name) died.

The Translation is not very best, but help to look, who is Alfred.

mfg,
Thanks for the translation. I'm not very good with the old style German writing. Does anyone have any listings of personnel in Aufklarungsgruppe 31?

Re: More Pictures to Share

Hello!

At the Aviation History Society Norway (AHS) database there is one Fw 189 loss where code starts 5D+ and there is an killed in action Alfred involved:

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_det...sp?lossid=8328

The plane lost was from NAGr 3 with code 5D+DM. This loss does not have to be the one mentioned in the caption by any means.

The photo looks to me that it shows 5D+MH, though. That would the the 1st Staffel of Auflkärungsgruppe 31 - 1.(H)/31 - which flew at Narva front early 1944. Very interesting unit for me. And one for which there is little to read about. If this photo is from the Staffel's period at Rakvere (Wesenberg)*, Estonia it would be even more interesting.

BTW could the text read "...In einer dieser Maschinen..." as there seems to be more than three letters in the word?

Cheers,
Kari

Kari,

Great information. Looks like there might be a mystery to solve.

Cheers,

Chuck

Hi, Kari...

I think you're right about the word being 'dieser'. Looks like the script is a variation of Sütterlin.

Regards...

Paul

Hi.
Looks like 'fund' and not 'fand'
Fund is past tense of found in German, if I remember my school German correct.

Hello Stefan,

"fand" is correct --- my wife is an teacher of German language ;-))) ... and the "u" in Sütterlin was written with an small hook over the letter (see on "Flugplatz").

Best wishes
Rasmussen
