Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Bf 109 G, possibly Gerbini (?), Summer 1943. If location is confirmed, this might be, according to Jochen Prien, WNF built Bf 109 G-6 W.Nr. 19 769, 6./JG 53 which was found at Gerbini Platz 9 with bomb damage, as in evidence on the rear fuselage.

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

A lot of confusion. 19769 wasn't found at Satellite N°9 but at Satellite N°6. Prien wrote "Rammacca" in his old book but Satellite N°6 was known as Gerbini-Torazzo (or Santo Martino for the Italians). Ramacca was Satellite N°12. Next, whatever the place, 19769 was said to be registered in III./JG53; so exit 6./JG53. Satellite N°9 was "Spina Santa". All three airfields (6, 9, 12) got unpaved airstrip and no such constructions like the hangar we can see on this picture. Some "5" coded machines everywhere, so no way to point a specific airfield. We can see - but I'm not that sure - a partial II. Gruppe band. Is the code White or Yellow? Not even sure it's a G-6 (Tail wheel bay open) Last Gerbini-Main had "1 medium and 1 small hangar' (deZeng) ... Or Comiso, better. Cheers, Franck. |
