Hello!

Magazine Luftwaffe im Focus Special No. 1 - Colour had one good colour photo of a I-153 painted in such way - fabric covered areas in silver and metal covered areas in very light gray.

Unfortunately the issue has been sold out.

Cheers,
Kari

PS VG-33 I was not reacting to your post at all.

Thank's for information. But "our" Tchaïka seems to be a green & black one, of the later series. We have to take off or proper french green paint first, to make it shure.

PS: No problem I don't take it personnal. I have just glanced at Mikhaïl Maslov book twice and saw my mistake, but you were faster.

Best regards.

Re: Soviet (and other) Aerocraft Paints

I will try to find time to find this text but in quick note in the mid of the war was introduced two pattern. one is based on blue grey colors and asigned to the mid level fighters and for low level fighters was assigned two green scheme. That was two new green one could be described as dark bronze green and the other as medium green. Hard to recognize it on images as well they are in tone similar to previous schemes. Reference also state industrial standard for this two colors so there could be something.

As well I am not much informed about the subject I would gladly like to listed experts here.

Cheers

P.S. no problem about misspel my name, it is funny for me.

Hello,

In fact all early soviet fighters of the WWII were painted according to the dirctive KO N°53 SS from the 29 april 1941: AMT-4 Green and AMT-6 Black on upper surfaces and AMT-7 (light) Blue for the undersides.
In July 1943, the 3rd NKAP published N° 389s/0133 new order, containing all directive "Schemes for the masking coloring of aircraft". For the fighters AMT-11 Light Grey was combined with the AMT-12 Dark Grey on the uppersurfaces, while use of the AMT-7 for the undersides remains unchainged. These nitrocellulose paints had their oil paint equivalents for the metal surfaces as A-33m, A-32m, A-28m.

They were no special distinction between high, and low altitude fighters.

All in the Lavockin la-5 book, from Milos Vestsik, MBI, Praha.

All the best,

VG-33
