Re: JG54 during the "Westfeldzug"
The album where these photo's are coming from contains a paper which describes Max Stotz. He joined the Austrian Air Force in 1935. From 14 March 1938 he flew in I./JG76. He flew in the Polish campaign, battle for France and the Battle of Britain. In the West he gained 16 victories with II/JG54. From June 1941 he flew in the Russian campaign. After 53 victories he received the Ritterkreuz on 19 June 1942. After 100 victories he received on 30 October 1942 serving as an Oberfeldwebel in the 5fst Staffel the Eicehenlaub. After that he was promoted to Leutnant and gained his 150st victory on 26 January 1943. After being promoted to Oberleutant he became in June 1943 Kapitan of the 5st Staffel and shortly afterwards Kommandeur of the II. Gruppe.
On August 1943 he had to abandon his aircraft by parachute after an air-battle and is since listed as missing. So it is quite possible that "white 4" was flown by Max Stotz. Regards, Jan |
