Re: Allied aircraft photos

Ed. This is a P-38L flown by Capt. DeHaven after his last victory with 7FS / 49FG; he was one of the pilots who used the same markings on successive aircraft ( his was an orchid and "13" as he was born on Jan.13 ). Carried on from P-40s though this was more elaborate. The serial (re-marked) looks like 44-26172 an L-5-LO. His 14 victories date from 14/7/43 to 4/11/44 and after the war he signed with Columbia Pictures and made several not very celebrated movies.
His P-40s and P-38s had 7FS light blue spinners, the P-40s with white Theatre tails.

Re: Allied aircraft photos

Ed...... as an aside another 49FG pilot made his name post-war but more successfully, 1/Lt. Dan H. David (8FS) later known as Dan Rowan from "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In"; he flew A P-40N 42-104949 "Miss Kathleen II" no.49 before being quite badly wounded.

I believe this P-40 is still with us. He sadly died early (65).
Regards
Nick

Flights over "the Hump", ie the Himalayas.
Favourite job for a lot of C-47 - C-46 crews, especially in their normal overloaded
condition....
Cheers
