Re: Allied aircraft photos
These are all 6th BG (N. Field Tinian, built by the 6th / 107th Naval Construction Battalions) they had red tail tips & cowling bands. Group marking Circle "R". The pirate insignia referenced previous service in the Caribbean.
1. "Patty Sue" 42-24825 /R-14 survived. 2 and 3 "White Mistress" 42-24776 /R-57 survived. 4. "Anne Garry III" 42-63514 /R-37 damaged over Tokyo, shot down by P-61 near IWO after crew bailed. Serial as per 6BG inventory. 5. "Snugglebunny" 44-69667 /R-32 survived ( 34 missions plus 78 Korea). 6."Shy Ann" probably 44-69864 /R-09 survived. Re: Allied aircraft photos
Ed the 3 I know are..............
Photo 3. B-29 "Fu-Kemal-Tu" 42-24720 Tri. N/11 (444BG) W. Field Tinian. Green Sqn. colour on fuselage band, prop hubs and cowl rings. She ditched in the Pacific 30/8/45 when flying POW missions. Photo 4. B-17E "Bataan" stripped down for MacArthur's transport as an XC-108; the insignia is a map of Luzon PI, then he had a C-54 "Bataan II". Photo 5. B-29 "Jack's Hack" 44-61566 Tri. I/55, 468BG also W. Field Tinian; the red cowling star references the Group's former "Comet and star" design in India. She survived. The B-29 in the New England Air Museum was restored in these markings. Nick Post # 9 |
