Re: Messerschmit Me110 of II./ZG1

Hi all,

I'm particularly interested in Uffz. Uhlig's Spitfire kill on 11 July 43. It looks like his victim more than likely was 2Lt. August Goldenberg of the 31st FG. Goldenberg was on a patrol over Gela in Spitfire Vc ES340 when his engine started overheating. He turned for Malta alone and never made it. The timing and location of Uffz. Uhlig's kill coincide perfectly with the mission report where he was lost. It had long been suspected that he was brought down by friendly fire from the US Navy over the beachhead, but my hunch is, he was shot down by Uhlig's Me110.

As a result, I'm wondering what kind of information the report on this microfilm would have?

Thanks very much!

Jon

Possibly the P-38s were from the 14th FG. Lts Quentin Teige and John Penning both failed to return and were last seen in combat with EA. The short description of the combat was "[T[he group ran into many enemy A/C,mostly twin engine types."

Has Les Butler's site been moved or shut down? Link doesn't work for me.
