Re: JG54 Victories

Good Evening Gents!
I know this is a very old thread, but it's rumoured that gun camera film
exists of this attack, maybe at IWM, maybe in one of the departments of the Bundesarchiv…
I'm researching this incident for family history reasons. Any help appreciated.

Re: JG54 Victories

This is an old thread for me from almost my beginning here but I don't like to post bad information. On Post #7 I obtained some information from www.luftwaffe.cz that had Oblt. Hans Beisswenger 6./JG 54 shooting down two LaGG-3 on the 03 Mar 1943 belonging to the 32 GIAP (one of the Soviet pilots being Ivan Mikhaylovich Kholodov). I checked in Prien's JFV 12/III and he did not make any claim for two LaGG-3 on that date and also checked JFV 9/III and no claim. So I don't have any idea where that information came from on that site. I try a lot harder to confirm my information now but don't list for JG 54. If I find anymore mistakes I'll post.

Re: JG54 Victories

Another correction this time for Post #24. The Pe-2s were from the 82 GBAP (1 GBAD) and were led this day by Mayor Vasiliy Grigor'evich Pchelkin (MIA). So not the 82 BAP. Considering the number of losses claimed instead 4 Pe-2 to fighters and 1 Pe-2 to AAA (Some Soviet planes listed as AAA also fell to German fighters because they were already damaged and the Soviets didn't see the finish off. It might actually be 5 Pe-2 to fighters.)

In Tony Woods list it has Weiss claiming a Pe-2 at 17:07 on the 23 Aug 1943 but now that I have Prien's JFV 12/III it shows this is incorrect. It lists Weiss shooting down an Airacobra (54) at 17:07. So here is the corrected.

3./JG 54 Oblt Robert Weiss Pe-2 (52) 17:00 35 Ost/60123
" Pe-2 (53) 17:05 60133
1./JG 54 Obfw Anton Doebele Pe-2 (63) 17:01 60154
1./JG 54 Lt. Gerhard Loos Pe-2 (77) 17:02 60762
" Pe-2 (78) 17:04 61813

22 September 1942
The 6 VA ordered a reconnaissance mission into the area of Staraya Russa. The Pe-2 from 8 ODRAE flown by Starshiy Leytenant Mineev took off for the mission. Over Lake Ilmen it was attacked by a Bf 109 and shot down. Mineev and his navigator Starshiy Leytenant Petrov escaped by parachute. The Pe-2 went down near the island of Voitsy with the gunner, Starshiy Serzhant Yakov Malaukh near the east bank of the lake.

Unteroffizier Friedrich Lüer 4/JG 54 Pe-2 (1) 07:44 at PlQu. 1967- at 5600 m.

In the area of Vsevolozhaya, the I-16 from 286 IAP flown by Flight commander Mladshiy Leytenant Mikhail Aleksandrovich Gorbachev was shot down with the pilot perishing. The possible victor was Oberleutnant Hans Götz of 1/JG 54 who claimed an I-16 (27) at 18:03.

Re: JG54 Victories

Greeting,

as the Normandie-Niemen Memorial asked me the question for a ceremony, I also share the information with you:
On October 15 at 11:40 a.m. (Soviet time), 8 Yak took off for a troop protection mission in the Lenino-Baevo sector (on the Belarus - Russia border - 65 km WSW of Smolensk). At 12 p.m., they engage in combat with 4 FW-190s.
Result: claim 2 FW-190 destroyed and 2 damaged (no trace seems to me of such loss in the German archives)
1 Yak-9 is shot down, pilot Lt Léo Barbier. On the 25th, the Soviets informed the French that he had been buried at Ivanovka/
On Oct 15, 1943, Ulrich Wohnert of 2./JG 54 claimed a LaGG-3 at 300m at 10:04 a.m. (German time or 12:04 p.m. Soviet time) in sector 15 534 (NE Gorki).
The village of Ivanovka is 6.5 km from the center of sector 15334/

The time and the place are concordant, the victory is thus confirmed "scientifically".

Courtois

Which sector is correct, 15534 or 15334?

Yes I know I can check other sources, but now feel it is perhaps time to state I have very serious knee/leg problems.
Once I manage to reach my computer, I am pretty much stuck there. I also hate sitting and wailing.....

Cheers
Stig

hi! Thanks again for the correction!!!
15334 is correct, you can also check on your phone to save your knees...
And I have serious eyesight problems, especially with the miniscuke letters from TOCH, and the last ophthalmologist I saw told me to close one eye and you'll see. 8 years of study to get here.... We are treated better in a UN dispensary in Somalia than in a French clinic...
So thank you for being sympathetic to my blindness.

Cheers
