Loss of a B25 fom Netherland Squadron
Hi,
During the stay of the 341 at Perranporth airfield – 10/1943 up to april 1944 a Lockeed B25 of a Netherland Squadron (180 ?) did a belly landing on this airfield. One of the crew was injured. Does anybody could tell me a possibility for the date of this loss ? TIA, Bertrand H |

No date but the Dutch squadron flying medium bombers was the 320 Sqn.

Do you have a more exact date of the event?
Also is Perranporth the main name for the field, is there perhaps another place name connected? I have a dutch book on the North-American B-25 Mitchell which lists the B-25s used and gives a short operational summary for each a/c, also for 320 Sqn. On first glance I couldn't find any mention of Perranporth.

Go here chaps - RAF Perranporth is a few miles from RAF Portreath, and they often get confused. Perranporth is a satelite airfield of Portreath. There are accounts of crashes credited to Perranporth that actually happened at Portreath, for some reason, 'Enfield Spitfire' from 130 sqn is one example.

Raid on Bretagne
As Cornwall was not the usual base of 2 Group medium bombers, I guess they were there for a raid against Bretagne. I have a French book listing them and will try to find a 320 Sqn crashing on return.
I helped once a Dutch searcher about a raid on Lanveoc-Poulmic, where 320 Sqn suffered heavy losses. If I remember well, it was in October 1943. WIll try to find back his e-mail. |

320 sqdn
Hi,
Thanks at all. I think Laurent’s remark is good. It could be one of some heavy losses after a raid over Britain on Lanveoc Poulmic. The print that I saw was taken a ground crew of the 341 squadron at Perranporth. I think the place is true because ground crew must do not often move like their pilots. Andy you are right ! RAF Perranporth is often get confused with RAF Portreath ! On 15 October 1943, Spits V arrived from Raf Biggin hill and they missed the airfield and went on Portreath but were directed back to Perranporth where they all made a good landing... but some months - weeks - the NA B25 did a bad landing. I hope one of you could find one of this candidate. In october 1943 ?? TIA, bertrand l |

mitchell crash
Hi
I have a copy of a diary of 67 M.U. of crashed aircraft recovered, in the diary is :- Mitchell , 320Sq , FR169, NO-L , there were nine bomb symbols, and the words ' Hollands [ next word is real poor but looks something like ] Sassis' also on the aircraft was the dutch triangle, The mitchell is listed between :- BZ779 311Sq St Eval [ my research date 7-10-43] and HJ853 307Sq [ can find no date] next date I can trace is six a/c later , FL545 5-12-43 Sadly the diary was not dated but is never the less a mine of info. If you wish I can provide a scan of the old photocopy. Cheers Jerry |

diary
Hi,
I forgot to mention the diary was hand written and is hard to read at times, due to it being unofficially carried out, so some of the info may need double checking, but the majority of it holds up. Cheers Jerry |
