Re: Vought F4U Corsair - top ten ace list

Very few F4Us, and no AUs as far as I know, were lost in aerial combat in Korea. All USN and USMC aircraft losses are cataloged in Douglas E Campbell's U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and MATS Aircraft Lost During the Korean War.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Good evening,

does the OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT volume by Warren Thompson reveal the number of Corsairs lost in aerial combat during the Korean War ?

Frank is correct and I should have been clearer, almost all of the F4U and AU combat losses were to ground fire.

Good afternoon Rich,

thanks for your assessment.
Can you tell me how many British Commonwealth Corsairs were lost in combat ?

Better late than never. Somehow I missed the question . . . my apologies.

In Korea? None. KORNWALD shows 12 Sea Furies, 2 Fireflies, 2 unknown.

During WW2? I have not a clue.

Campbell is for me a source of absolute last, last resort. He makes too many mistakes of names and units for my purposes.

Hello Leonard,

I didn't knew that the British flew the Corsair in Korea.
Did they shoot anything down with it ?

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Vought F4U Corsair - top ten ace list

They did not use them to my knowledge, which explains why they lost none.
