Hello, this is my Spitfire top ten ace list. Enjoy. Michael

1. James Johnson GB 36,92 [34+7]
2. George Beurling CA 31,33 [31+1]
3. Adolph Malan SA 29,75 [27+7]
4. Brendan Finucane IR 29 [26+6]
5. Colin Gray NZ 27,7 [27+2] (+0,5 [0+1] in Hurricane)
6. Eric Lock GB 26,5 [26+1]
7. Neville Duke GB 22 (+4,83 [4+2] in P-40)
8. Donald Kingaby GB 21,67 [21+2]
9. Henry McLeod CA 21
10. William Crawford NZ 20,5 [20+1]

  • The top Spitfire IX ace is Johnson (29,08 victories)
  • The top Spitifre V ace is Beurling (29,33 victories)
  • Is Lock the top Spitfire I ace (21 victories) or has Kingaby more ?

Kingaby: according to Shores et. al. Aces High (1994) 8 1/6 conf 2 prob 6 dam while flying Mk I. Vol 2 doesn't change the numbers.

Good evening Juha,

thanks for the info.
Kingaby switched to the Spitfire V afterwards which renders Eric Lock the top Spitfire I ace.
Can you tell me if any American pilots ever scored more Spitifre kills than Lance Wade's 10 ?

Good evening Juha,

Wade served in the RAF.
In fact he's the most successful American ace to fly in a foreign service.
He had 13 Hurricane kills and 10 Spitfire kills.
