Hampden AE 116

Today I received the book "The Hampden File" by Harry Moyle and was thrilled to find a picture of Hampden AE 116 being recovered after crashing at Waddington.

AE 116 was my fathers aircraft and that night they had been on a mine laying trip to Copenhagen. The duration of the flight was 9.35 hours and they ran out of fuel while attempting too land.

All of the crew survived the crash and the aircraft was repaired and returned to service and converted to a torpedo bomber with 489 Squadron until being struck of charge June 9th 1944.
