FW 189 "identification" plate ???
![]() Hi all! This "identification" plate has been located at the crash site of a FW 189. Can anyone tell anything more about a/c from it e.g. W.Nr? We can expect that below is a date 20.4.43 - what does it mean? Thanks in forward for any help. Boris |

Re: FW 189 "identification" plate ???
We found a similar plate this summer:
http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/finnmark.html The plate is a part number plate, and not the aircrafts werkenummer. I guess the date indicates when the part was made. regards Kjell |

Re: FW 189 "identification" plate ???
Hi
The only 'main' plate I have seen was on Fw189 A1/A2 W.Nr2100. This plate was located on the wing tip when the aircraft was recovered in 1992 and stated the following information.(I have a photo somewhere). Clearly evident on one of the wing tips, was the, or if not, one of the main work plates for the aircraft. Surprisingly this had survived, perhaps from not being seen, but also being covered in yellow theatre paint, it had been concealed. It clearly stated 'Focke Wulf Flugzeugbau GmbH, Bremen'. 'Nachbau Aero'. 'Prag-Praha'. Muster 189 and full Werks Nr of 0112100. (The 01 stands for 'A' series aircraft and the '1' is the model number, indicating it was built originally as an A1 variant.) Although this is the full works number, most of the other work plates, especially the painted number on each fin, simply referred to it as Werk.Nr 2100. This was a very early 189 - July 1941. Believe the ones you are discussing were later models which may well have had a simpler and shorted W.Nr ID plate. Hope this helps. regards MS |

Re: FW 189 "identification" plate ???
Thanks for your input, Mark
The WNr on the Finnmark Fw 189 is not confirmed yet. Some sources say it might be WNr.788, but I believe this number is too high, given the date 9-42 regards Kjell |
