Re: German Seaplane bases on Crete

Thank you so much Byron !!!

PS! Do u know what kind of planes they used in Suda at all time, and how many were stationed there??
Do u know about any reports about accidents with the seaplanes stationed in Souda-Bay, or anyone shot down ??
What about the paintings on the planes ??

Thanks in advance.

Re: German Seaplane bases on Crete

Look at the book 'Luftwaffe Seaplanes 1939-45' by Chris Goss and Bernd Rauchbach , Crecy Publications.
You will find many colour!! photos of german seaplanes at Suda.

Regards Tasos

Re: German Seaplane bases on Crete

Mainly the Arado AR 196 were used for See recon .
In the suda bay Aufklärungsgruppe 126 (See) was equiped with that plane .

I have some great pics of the staffel taken by my Grand Father who served in that unit in Crete.

Just a sample to show you :

Does someone know who are the officers in front of the Ju 52 ?

Great photos and thanks for sharing. Dornier Do-24 also operated from Crete as part of Seenotstaffel 7.

Hope this link helps you:

Re: German Seaplane bases on Crete

Hi SAGR 126,

thank you for the grate pics you posted

On your last photo, i think the older man in leathercoat is general Wilhelm Müller, kommander of Crete.

Can you tell us the Staffel of your grandfather, it would help in order to locate the other officers. Obviously it is the 4. Staffel if i am not wrong.

regards

byron
