KG 30 and the HMT Lancastria

HI All,

I am posting this for a friend - he is interested in the specifics of the plane(s) and crew(s) if known that sunk the Lancastria 5 miles off St. Nazaire at approximately 1600 hours 17 June 1940.

Any information would be of great use.

Thanks

John

Re: KG 30 and the HMT Lancastria

There is much confusion about who did this but I have evidence that confirms 2 crews from I/KG 30 were in that area at that time, one crew member from one ac was killed, two from the other wounded. If you want to know more, you will have to wait for my next book 'Sea Eagles-German offensive Maritime Operations' which is due publishing by Classic/Ian Allan in June July this year!

Re: KG 30 and the HMT Lancastria

It was discussed here (o in anoher forum?) some time ago. SB forced, that the succesful crew was shot down instantly by a Hurricane, but I am still doubthful regarding that.I hope, that Chris' next book will solve that problem.

I made a request on luftarchiv.de, but without great success. They only know that the attack probably was performed by 14 Ju 88s of KG 30, of which one was damaged and did a crash landing. The names of the crews could not been found out.
