Uffz Ottomar Kruse 8/JG26

Hi to all,

Searching for information regarding the shooting down of Uffz Ottomar Kruse over Belgium during 1944? I was in contact with this pilot a few years ago and he told me he was shot down in a Fw 190. I am searching for details regarding the aircraft, Wnr. etc and who possibly shot him down. Any information would be appreciated.

Regards

Melvin

Re: Uffz Ottomar Kruse 8/JG26

Hi Franek,

Thanks for your post! I know that Ottomar had at least two victory claims for August 1944, the first on the 16.08 when he shot down a P-51 at 14.35 hours, the second a P-38 on the 25.08 at 13.55 hours. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Melvin

Hi Melvin,

According to The JG26 War Diary by Donald Caldwell ( which has several mentions of this pilot) Kruse was shot down and taken POW on 16 Sept 44. He was flying Fw190A-8 171505 and was shot down at Nutherveld at 1810hrs by a P47 of 50FG,

Re: Uffz Ottomar Kruse 8/JG26

Franek,

According to the War Diary book on the 18th. Aug. Kruse landed at a race-track with combat damage, and was told by a Labour Service officer he was in Arras. On the 16th he had claimed a P51 of 354 FG at Rambouillet and on the 25th. Aug. a P38 of the 474 FG near Beauvais (pilot James Austin) . That Kruse was taken POW on 16th Sept. and had two victories also shown in Prillers JG 26 history.
