Question Tactical markings / Unit List - Summer 1940

A quick question for the experts. I made three lists of units (Bomber, Destroyer & Stuka) which were engaged in the "Battle of Britain" with Luftflotte 2 and 3. My questions are:

1.) Are the lists complete? Did I miss a unit or did I list units which were not operational?
2.) Are the unit code examples in the PDFs correct?

The lists are just mnemonics for me so I know which emblems I have to draw.

Thx in advance.

First of all, ZG 26:
Geschwaderstab = 3U
I. Gruppe = U8
II. & III. Gruppen = 3U

Secondly, 1./Erpr. Gr. 210. Individual aircraft letters (third character of code) were blue, outlined in white.
Old unit code of '2N' was used intially on the Bf 110 C-6s of 1. Staffel. When they got their first batch of Bf 110 D-0/Bs in early August, the code on all their Bf 110s was standardised at 'S9'. They first used the Bf 110 D-0/Bs on 11th August in an attack on shipping in the Thames estuary.

I do not see 7.(F)/LG 2 in the destroyer list, nor any of the recce units.

Thumbs up Re: Tactical markings / Unit List - Summer 1940

Thx John.

I haven't listed the recce units yet (I did separate by role, not aircraft type). If you have a list of the assigned recon units (Fernaufklärer prefered due to to the topic - Heeresaufklärer are kinda out of their element in a cross-Channel environment) I'd be grateful..

Re: Tactical markings / Unit List - Summer 1940

Christian,

I find no evidence for blue individual identity letters being used on Geschwaderstab aircraft. However, there are several well-documented examples down in this country where the colour reported by RAF Intelligence was green, the same as Gruppenstab machines.

References: A.D.I.(k) Report Nos. 246, 530, & 692/1940 in NA(PRO).

Re: Tactical markings / Unit List - Summer 1940

Well most of the colored letters are mere placeholders. I need to look at photos to determine the style and coloring.

BTW I also found another error to correct - I./StG 3 did not use the S7 code but used S1. And there I thought at least the Stukas and Bombers appreciated the value of a standardized marking scheme ...
