Details

"The extraordinary Junkers Ju 287, the first truly swept-winged, jet-powered aircraft, took to the sky in August 1944, at a time when Germany was suffering sustained round-the-clock bombing by the Allied air forces. Despite such adverse development conditions, this large and futuristic aircraft represented a remarkable accomplishment in aeronautical design. It featured a revolutionary swept forward wing and was built largely from scavenged components from other aircraft. The project was considered ‘top secret’ and evaded Allied intelligence for many months.

This book is illustrated throughout by many photographs, several previously unpublished, and contains much new and revised information on the Ju 287 and it will be the definitive account of this remarkable aircraft. The authors also trace the development of forward swept-winged aircraft prior to its appearance and the aircraft’s subsequent history in the Soviet Union and its post-war influence on aircraft projects and designs produced in Germany. A unique and compelling account for all aviation enthusiasts."

Re: Announce: "Junkers Ju287: Germany's Forward Swept Wing Bomber"

Thanks Dan...

Having spent the last 15 or so years collecting archive documentation on this type, I would have loved to produce my very own work. It became clear to me at a very early stage that not only had Stephen been collecting Ju287 material for longer than me, but his post-war aerodynamic experience with forward-swept wings made him the idea candidate to produce the main body of this work. I'm honoured to have been able to fill some of the gaps and also aid additional archive research here in the UK, but at the end of the day Stephen should take all the plaudits as and when this hits the shelves. I had set out to write the definitive book on this type, and from what I've seen of his manuscript, Stephen has fulfilled that objective.. and some more too!

Cheers

It's a very special feeling when you know you have contributed to history Peter. Many don't realize just how much work is really involved, and we sure don't do it for the money! LOL It's the satisfaction of knowing we have cleaned up a lot of holes in understanding of the past. Again, well done!

I don't suppose Dan is working on the "The Ju 287 Production Log" by any chance? It'd be quite a short book!

...and my box of copies arrived today, so at least it looks like all the orders placed will be fulfilled for Christmas... as I'm going to be biased, I won't review it other than to say that Stephen Ransom has done a wonderful job...

Cheers
