Werner Baumbach's Ju 88A-4 of I./KG 30 or III./KG30
Hello everybody,
To kick things off: I'm new here. Name's Erik, saw too late that the forum policy is to use real names as inlognames. Sorry about that! The One-Oh-Four is used as a tribute to my deceased father who has flown the F-104G Starfighter in the Royal Netherlands' Air Force. Now my question: Which paint scheme is correct for Baumbach's Ju 88A-4 A6 + HH, the version of AirDoc with yellow shield and spinners or the painting instructions by Hasegawa which feature half painted-out white portions of the Balkenkreuze on the fuselage and fully painted-out white portions of the Balkenkreuze on the wings? They also direct the modeler to put the swastika on top of the ship kill-markings. Should be the other way around, I think... Hasegawa also states that the shield with the eagle has a white background and the spinners are white. As I've found on the internet elsewhere white is the color of I. Gruppe end yellow of the III. Gruppe? I know Baumbach has been Gruppenkommandeur of III. Gruppe but that doesn't exclude the possibillity that he flew with I. Gruppe at an earlier date? AirDoc's artwork as linked from www.aircraftresourcecenter.com : ![]() Hasegawa's paint instructions linked from the www.1999.co.jp webshop: ![]() Thanks in advance! Best regards, Erik. |

Re: Werner Baumbach's Ju 88A-4 of I./KG 30 or III./KG30
Hi,
This was not Baumbach's aircraft. A6+HH was Ju 88D-1 WNr 1067 from 1(F)/120 flown by Hptm Helmuth ORLOWSKI (RK), located in Norway. No shield on this aircraft. It exists a Ju 88 (I think a A-5) coded 4D+MR with similar kill markings in the MTO, some said a Baumbach's machine, but I doubt. Hope that will help. (Hasagawa plans to issue a D-1 model this month, you could put the decals on it ! I have the same project). Von Alles |

Re: Werner Baumbach's Ju 88A-4 of I./KG 30 or III./KG30
Hi Erik,
Forgive me but I think this discussion has been here before. Mostly we deal with the real articles here but this particular A6+HH was NOT Baumbachs, but Ju 88 D-1 W.Nr. 1067 belonging to 1.(F)/120 - an Recce unit - and regular machine of Staffelkapitän Hptm. Helmuth Orlowski and Beobachter Oblt. Fritz Heidenreich, this aircraft was destroyed in air-attack on ground at Forus Airfield 07.01.1942. cheers ed |

Re: Werner Baumbach's Ju 88A-4 of I./KG 30 or III./KG30
Thanks, Von Alles & Ed for the clarification!
@ Ed, I did search te board but didn't find anything. I searched on Baumbach, however. Since it isn't his plane, apparently that could be the reason nothing turned up? Thanks for the patience! Best regards, Erik. |
