Eduard Tratt

Hi guys

Oberleutnant Eduard Tratt (38 victories, RK-EL, killed in action 22 February 1944) was wounded on 18 February 1942 while serving with 4./ZG 26 and again on 27 March 1942 while serving as Staffelkapitän of 6./ZG 26. Is there any loss list information for the aircraft that he was flying on those two occasions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Eduard Tratt

At approx 1400hrs (US aircrew time), S/Sgt R L Jackson, RWG of the 401BS, 91st BG in ship '504 "P", claimed an Me410 destroyed at position 5205N1040E. The Claim was graded as (A/C) "Destroyed". This information taken from the post-Mission Encounters Summary.

Re: Eduard Tratt

Further to my earlier posting, it seems that although the gunner stated a position of 1040E, 0940E would be more logical, seeing as though the Target of Opportunity was Bunde

Hello BigWeeker

Many thanks for your information. It is my understanding that II./ZG 26 claimed three B-17 four-engined bombers and lost only one Me 410 that day. Do you have any idea if 5205N 1040E/0940E is near Nordhausen where Tratt and Gillert were shot down and killed? Furthermore, do you know if any other gunners claimed a twin-engined fighter that day? Many thanks for your information - great first post.

Horrido!

Re: Eduard Tratt

There was an earlier thread on the shooting down of Eduard Tratt and it appeared that no fighter could successfully claim him. So, S/Sgt Jackson may well have been the victor over Tratt.

Thanks for the info, BW.

All the best,
George

Re: Eduard Tratt

Hello Leo
5205N 1040E is a bit north of Nordhausen, almost halfway between Winnigstedt and Kissenbrück.

Hope this helps
Juha

Eduard Tratt

Hello Juha

Many thanks for clarifying the location that the coordinates specify. From all that is mentioned it does seem as if Tratt and Gillert were quite possibly downed by Jackson. Very interesting information to know and I wish to thank all who contributed to this thread.

Horrido!

Leo
