He-111 factory number question

Hi guys, I have a question about the He-111 serial numbers. First of all, is 161604 a correct He-111 production number? If it is indeed a He-111 production number, then is it possible to find out more information from the number - like what model was the He-111, when was it produced... or anything like that? Thanks in advance!

Re: He-111 factory number question

Hi Theodor,

Yes, this is likely valid number:
161581 - 161630 ( 50) He 111 H-16 (HWO)
Period: likely about early 1943

cheers
ed

Re: He-111 factory number question

Hi,

Ed is correct, it was an H-16. It was in service with the Bulgarian airforce summer 1943 and with the Slovakian airforce 1944.

Regards,

David

Re: He-111 factory number question

It was a single aircraft and did not serve as a bomber, but as a VIP aircraft of the AF Command. As far as I know, indeed it finished its life postwar in Czechoslovak service.

BTW, what does HWO mean?

Re: He-111 factory number question

Hi,

It indicates that it was built by Heinkel Werke Oranienberg.

Yes, it did survive the war and was indeed, as far as I can tell, a one -off supply. Other WNrs around it appear to have gone to KG4 and KG53.

Regards

David

Remi, check the copies from the Bundesarchiv - RL2 III/651. This particular plane for the Bulgarian king is mentioned 3-4 times before the delivery to Bulgaria in October-November 1943. No WkNr. though...
Cheers!
