Missing Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer block?
Gents,
I was researching Emil Lang's Fw 190 A-8 in which he was shot down on September 3, 1944, and noticed that all sources indicate that his aircraft "grün 1's" werknummer was 171240. However, this number does not fit into known / published A-8 werknummerserien, but falls between 171151-171200 and 171450-171750. Thus there should(?) technically be a block of unknown size between these two series that would have been built by Focke-Wulf (Cottbus) sometime between June and August. Therefore: 1) Did a weknummer block exist withing the 171201-171449? Are there other known losses within this group? 2) If so, what is its precise range and numbers and what is the source of this information? 3) Is it possible that the original transcrition of Lang's loss was incorrectly noted in period documents recording the event? Can the original documents be consulted to confirm what was actually noted? 4) If 3) is correct, what possible werknummer could his aircraft have worn? Any thoughts and comments are appreciated. Cheers, David |
