Seeking information on WWII French AF who trained in US

Hello,

I just found this site and I believe some one in this group will be able to assist me in learning about the group of French AF personnel in North Africa who joined the Allies and who were eventually sent to the US for training. As I understand it, many aircrews were trained and eventually participated in joint US/FF/RAF operations in the MTO.

I found a particularly interesting paper on the French AF that explains many of the problems they had in effectively supporting their army operations:

http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/a.../kirkland.html

Though I'm not ready to say why I'm interested just yet, I specifically would like to know the following:

There was a unique shoulder patch for French Forces in training. While in the US, did they wear the standard "Pinks and Greens" while in training?

Second, can anyone provide details on exactly how they made their way from the Vichy forces to the Allies?

Any references to these times would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.
