Data Plate from crashed ME-109
I was given a date plate taken from a crashed ME-109 (it had crashed some place in Europe I belive near an American air base)? It was recoved from the ME-109 by a WWII B-24 pilot (now deceased). Would like to find out the history of this aircraft if anyone out there knows how to go about doing it? Info on the date plate: Gerat Nr. 9-12087-A 3 Werk Nr 15.9545 Flugel satzweise austauschbar. Any help would be appricated.

Re: Data Plate from crashed ME-109
The prefix "9" would seem to indicate an engine rather than airframe component. That said, I think the German text is roughly that the wing sets are interchangeable. One of our German friends will confirm the absolute translation I am sure.
Are you sure this is Me 109 and not Fw 190? Can we see a photo or scan of the actiual plate? |

Re: Data Plate from crashed ME-109
I have no way of making sure it was a 109 and not a 190 like you might think as the person who recoved it during WWII and gave it to my friend who then gave it to me has past away. My friend told me it was from a 109 so I was going with that info. I don't know how to send you a picture of it (will check with my son, as he knows more about these computers than I do) but the date plateis black 2 inches long 1/2 inch wide Gerat Nr. 9-12087-A 3 and Werk Nr. 15.9545 along with the words Flugel satzweise austauschbar on the bottom of the plate, there is also what looks like a round stamp on the plate with the letter BA and the some small numbers below it which I believe are 2?03 (not sure of the second number it could be a one or two, or even somthing else. Thanks for checking this out for me...Bob Baker (email: kiwibob@nctv.com) will also keep checking out this site....

Re: Data Plate from crashed ME-109
It's plate from a VDM 9-12087 variable pitch propellor used on Bf 109 G series (except G-10).
It this case "Flugel" means "propellor blade". |

Re: Data Plate from crashed ME-109
Meaning the date plate will only be able to give me info on the type of propeller blade?? Which means I can give up on trying to find out what aircraft it was on??? I had hoped it was a date plate off the aircraft frame or Engine, so I could find out more about it. Thanks for you help...

Re: Data Plate from crashed ME-109
Hi kiwibob!
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell what aircraft it is from based on your tag. In-fact almost none of the fuselage plates on the Me109 had the aircraft werk number...usually just the main plate, one on the tail, and one in the wings. mike |
